Esenin ah so many cats in the world

Oh, how many cats there are in the world,
You and I will never count them.
The heart dreams of sweet peas,
And the blue star rings.

History of creation

This poem has a real history of creation, so let's describe it in two words. In 1924 Sergei takes his younger sister Alexandra to the city from Konstantinovo, thinking that this will help her find her way in life. One September evening he and his sister went for a ride in a cab in order to see the city for himself and show Shura.

During the ride, his sister notices that there are a lot of cats in town, and she and her brother decide to count them on the way. The exact calculations remain in history, but what Yessenin saw so caught on that the very next day he wrote a poem, "Oh, how many cats there are in the world," and dedicated it to his sister.

The theme of the poem

This poem does not have a deep philosophical subtext, it is a story about what he saw the day before in the city and there is a light excursion by the author to the time of his childhood. Cats immediately reminded Sergei Alexandrovich of his childhood in Konstantinovo, where:

Time passed, Sergei grew up, turned into a man, but memories of the past remained dear to his heart. His grandmother died long ago, the village has changed, but

We see a slight philosophical deviation, where Yesenin talks about the transience of life. Just yesterday he was playing with a kitten, and today his hair can only be seen on his grandfather's hat. At least this way, what will be left after me, thinks Yesenin – poetry?

I haven't seen such beautiful ones (Yesenin)

I have not seen such beautiful ones,
Only, you know, in my heart
Not in bad, but in good resentment –
You repeat my youth.

You are my cornflower word,
I love you forever.
How does our cow live now,
How does our cow live now?

You will sing, and I love you,
Heal me with a child's sleep.
Whether our rowan tree is burnt out,
crumbling beneath the white window?

What now sings the mother behind the heap?
I have left the village forever,
But I know that in a crimson blizzard
The leaves on our porch have fallen.

I know that we are together
Instead of caresses and tears
At the gate like a bent bride,
The abandoned dog howls softly.

And yet I must not return,
For this reason it is not in time,
Like love, like sorrow and joy,
Your beautiful Ryazan shawl.

Notes

Shura is Alexandra Alexandrovna Yesenina, the poet's younger sister (1911-1981). In the autumn of 1924 she moved from Konstantinov to Moscow to continue her schooling. Of the circumstances surrounding the emergence of these poems, she recalled:

"One September day, Sergei suggested that Sonya and I go for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. The day was warm and quiet. Just as we drove away from the house, cats caught my attention. I saw too many of them. I had never seen so many cats before and I told Sergei about it. At first he just smiled and continued to sit quietly, lost in his thoughts, but then suddenly laughed out loud. He thought my discovery was amusing and he immediately turned it into a game of counting all the cats we met on the way. This activity amused us all, and Sergey was probably more fascinated by it than I was. On seeing a cat, he jumped up from his seat and, pointing his hand at it, exclaimed: "There, there's another one. "When we reached Theater Square, Sergey suggested we go in for lunch. And here I am for the first time in a restaurant. The doormats, the carpets, the mirrors, the sparkling chandeliers-all of this struck and stunned me. I saw myself in the huge mirror and was taken aback: I seemed so small, clumsy, dressed in a rustic way, and covered with a beautiful, but rustic scarf. But Sonya and Sergey are with me. They behave simply and freely. And, clinging to them, I step to the table by the column. Seeing my embarrassment, Sergei kept smiling, and, to finally embarrass me, he muttered, "Look how beautiful you are, how everyone is looking at you. ". And the next day Sergei wrote and dedicated a poem to me: "Oh, how many cats there are in the world, you and I will never count them. " and "I've never seen such beautiful ones. " (Vosp., 1, 119-120).
