We cover the cardboard lid of the tray and put it on the window, closer to the radiator, there are ideal conditions – warm and bright. After three days, added a little more water.

A neighbor told me how to grow grass for the cat without soil in a week
Recently I have a new concern – how to quickly grow greens for my cat. My red-haired beauty started nibbling on plants, so I decided to replace my flowers with grass for him. A neighbor helped me out, she told me how to get green oats and wheat grass without soil in just a week.
I did not think before that my cat needs green, because it eats well, no problems. But then I accidentally read that it turns out, if the cat eats house flowers, then it needs green. And indeed, my cat from time to time spoils the plants in the house, but I attributed it to the whims of cats.
With grass, cats solve 2 problems: cleansing the stomach of accumulated hair, which they lick off all the time, and obtaining essential vitamins, which are not present in meat food. Grass eating is an instinctive behavior of cats, which is why they love to nibble on geraniums, violets, or even cacti.
So I decided to make my furry pet happy too and grow some grass for him. Only without soil. The pros of growing greens on the windowsill without soil :
I did not bother germinating oats and wheat on gauze, mineral wool or perlite. I decided to just grow greens in water and did not fail.
Thanks to the advice of my neighbor, I now grow whole glades of grass right in a plate or any suitable container – very convenient and not expensive. I take the most ordinary flat plate or plastic container, fill the container with wheat grains tightly, so that the bottom was not visible. I pour water so that it covers a thick layer of grains. Now they have to swell and only then can we add more water.
I try to make sure that the grains do not dry out, and a little more water. Grains germinate very quickly, their roots are intertwined, forming a dense mat and it gradually grows a green lawn of grass.
Every day I rinse the growing greens so that mold does not form and bacteria does not accumulate in them. I simply take the bundle of sprouts in my hands, turn them over and rinse them under running water. Then I put it back in the plate and refill the water.
Benefits of grass for cats
Cats eat grass and chew green stems for a reason. Instinct tells them the benefits of this meal. So you should add grass to your cat's diet for at least three reasons:
- It will benefit digestion – pets tend to swallow clumps of hair, taking care of it, and by eating fresh herbs these clumps will leave the body faster;
- Clean the intestines from slags and fecal stones – the herb works as a natural laxative;
- replenish the supply of vitamins and microelements – magnesium, folic acid, zinc, sulfur, biotin, etc.
From the fact that the pet chews the house flowers, can spoil not only the mood of the owner. Certain plants are harmful for cats – at the very least they are harmful to the body, and at most they are life-threatening. Growing grass on a windowsill is very easy, the first shoots will appear in a couple of days, and after about a week already offer the cat a healthy green treat. Grass is especially good to eat in the winter.
Three ways to grow grass at home
In order not to risk the safety of the pet, you should not buy the seed at the market. There is no guarantee that it has not been treated with toxic agents. Buy a few bags of special grass at a pet store.
Experienced cat owners know three ways to sprout grass for the pet on the windowsill.
- The first method allows you not to buy soil and not to make a mess at home. You should not expect a big yield, but if you want to offer grass to a cat for the first time, you can try this method. You will need two plastic plates of different diameters, absorbent cotton, large-mesh gauze and polyethylene film. At the bottom of a wider plate, having previously made a few punctures in it, put absorbent cotton, pour water and put the seeds, cover with gauze, top with another plate and wrap with polyethylene.
- The second method already implies the use of soil, which is sold in any flower store. Earth is poured into any suitable container – pot, vase, tray or box. The seeds are soaked in water for about 50 minutes, lightly moisten the soil to accelerate germination and sow. On top, you need to cover the seeds with earth and polyethylene film – this will create a greenhouse effect. In about three days there will be sprouts and the film is removed.
- Instead of soil, vermiculite or cat litter can be used – this is the third method. Planting is similar to the second method. The filler should be pre-moistened with water to a mushy state.
When the grass rises, you need to water it periodically – a little water 1-2 times a day daily. Remember that you do not need to breed a whole plantation. Only young shoots are good for cats, plant the greens as needed.
If the grass is to the cat's liking, use the conveyor seeding method. After planting the first batch, wait until they sprout, then plant the second one a week later, and the third one a week later. The cat will be provided with fresh grass.
Grass for cats TiTBiT – review
Hi all!
My fluffy just loves fresh grass, so we buy it often. Before this I mostly bought AVZ grass, but it is not always on sale and not very easy to germinate (there is a smell from the roots on the 10-12 days). Although the result is amazing!!!
Weed TiTBiT was bought at Fix Price for 50 rubles.
With the brand TiTBiT I am familiar with the brand TiTBiT by its treats for cats (Beef Lung).
The manufacturer promises to 8-10 сVezhuya grass, let's see if it's true).
_____________________________❤What is the grass for?❤_____________________________
Almost all cats like grass and it's not without reason, because it is very useful for the cat's body. I'll tell you why it is so useful!
Fluffy cat licks his coat all the time, so a huge amount of hair gets into the body daily (especially during shedding). The hair in the cat's body is not digested, and even in a healthy body sometimes there are problems with the removal of hair from the gastrointestinal tract. In the event of a problem, you can resort to either malt pasla or fresh grass. The first method is easier to use, you don't have to grow the grass, but the second method is healthier.
3. Just something to make the cat happy, as many cats are very fond of grass!

How to grow grass for cats without soil, oats, wheat, which grass is better?
Cats that do not walk outside need grass. They need to remove their hair.
You can grow any kind of grass: wheat or rye, oats or barley, or millet – whatever you have. You can in the ground, you can without soil.
- To begin with you need to pour water over night to swell the grains. Then drain the water and start growing.
- Instead of soil you can take sawdust, toilet paper or tissue paper, you can take a piece of burlap or even absorbent cotton – what is not sorry. This is stacked in several layers, moisten.
- On top of the "substrate" spread the swollen grains and cover with wet gauze. A couple of times a day open and sprinkle, so that they do not dry out.
- As soon as the sprouts turn green (in 3-4 days), remove the cover and grow as a grass. Just put on a window sill or balcony, but not under direct light.
- Water every day, you can sprinkle . Everything. A good carpet of grass will do in ten days.
Pets need vitamins just like people do. And in order for your cat to be healthy with a beautiful coat and a good mood it should be fed with healthy herbs. Many cats like this taste and they do not mind to diversify their diet.
Greens contain B vitamins and folic acid, and with the help of herbs the cat induces vomiting, which helps it to cope with undigested or spoiled food. When cats lick themselves, scraps of hair getting into their stomachs cause discomfort and gastrointestinal problems.
Nature has thought of everything in the world down to the last detail, and hasn't forgotten about cats. So cats eat grass with narrow stems for fixation, and with wide stems for laxative effect.
The favorite grass is oats, but also from wheat or other "brethren" of oats, the purrfect cat will not refuse. You should not feed your cat homemade flowers or street grass. Such experiments can have a bad effect on health.
How to grow grass for a cat on a windowsill so that it is thick?
What does grass come from, how do you get thick green grass in a glass or in a bowl for a cat or cat?
The easiest thing you can do is take a bowl or something smaller, so to speak, "at a time." I, for example, use a low (5-7 cm) from the yogurt jar. The bulk of the soil is filled, leaving about 1.5 cm to the edge of the jar. Then you pour the oats. I pour at intervals, not wanting density, but you can pour a solid single layer, covering the ground. Then I fill with soil, about 5 mm. I put it on the window sill, but not in the sun, in different light. I water with a hand sprayer. Wets the soil, not diluting; not pouring the jar (pouring can cause rotting). The first day I wet with a sprinkler several times, so that the soil with the seeds soaked, but not to the bottom of the jar. On subsequent days – in the morning and evening. Within a week, sprouts will appear, which in a week and a half (depending on temperature, dry air, watering, light) will grow to 10-12 cm (higher will be only in flower pots), being juicy and fresh. Longer than 2-4 days after that, you should not wait, they may become more rigid or dry, and later – yellow.
Greens are a treasure trove of nutrients
We eat salads made of fresh herbs and vegetables, right? Your cat needs this kind of "salad". Outdoor cats intuitively find greens to help them heal from illnesses. House cats don't have that luxury. True, they may try to chew on your plants, which can be disastrous not only for the indoor greens, but also for the cats. Some houseplants can be poisonous.
You don't want your cat to eat your flowers, do you? A pet's diet should be balanced, with all the necessary vitamins and minerals. Fresh herbs are just a treasure trove of all these micronutrients. And the most popular cat salad comes from oats. Sprouted oats are rich in vitamins B1, B6, E, H, choline – 22, potassium, calcium, silicon, magnesium, phosphorus and iron.
Gastrointestinal aid.
In addition to vitamins, this food "supplement" helps the cat get rid of littered hair, bones, or poorly digested food. It stimulates the digestive tract and stimulates the gag reflex. There are times when you just need to give your pet fresh sprouted grass. If the pet has constipation or diarrhea, and also during the pregnancy of the cat. And also – when the hair of your cat is too long – in this case, it accumulates in the stomach.
So, how do you sprout oats for your cat? Nothing special is needed for this process. A windowsill, sunlight, fresh air, utensils and plain water. And the oats themselves, of course. By the way, make sure that the grains have not been chemically treated. We advise you to choose a shallow, but wide dish to germinate more herbs.
Ways to grow herbs at home
It is safest to buy planting material for growing at a pet store.
There are many ways to grow sprouts for cats. Let's take the easiest and least expensive methods.
Not all housewives want or have the ability to use potting soil for planting.
For your first experience growing young grass, you will need: 2 plastic plates, absorbent cotton, some gauze and foil.
At the bottom of the plate we put a 2 cm layer of absorbent cotton, abundantly moisten it with water, densely pour the seeds and cover our "field" with film. When the seedlings appear, remove the film and do not forget to moisten the absorbent cotton.
We take any container and pour the soil in a layer of 5-6 cm. Sprinkle the soil, pour a layer of seeds, then pour a centimeter layer of soil and lightly moisten it.
To create a greenhouse effect, cover the container with foil, which should be removed after the shoots sprout.
Some housewives have adapted to use vermiculite or cat filler instead of soil. The actions are the same as in the second method, only first the filler is soaked to a state of mush.
It is not necessary to breed a whole vegetable garden in the window. Only the early shoots, which will outgrow in a week, are useful for the animals.
To ensure that the cat always has fresh greens, you need to have three pots and sow seeds in them every 10-12 days.
Juicy oat or rye shoots you will not have to teach or force the cat to eat. The animal will feel what he needs to do.
And soon a contented pet will leave the owner's favorite flowers alone.
Grass for cats TiTBiT – review
Once again strolling through the store of sundries came across an interesting product – "cat grass" by TiTBiT.
What if my cat is a WALKER and he wants to eat plant foods! And I feed him dry and wet balanced cat food? Hmm, I'll have to try grass.
Also on the label is information about the benefits of grass for cats, composition, storage conditions, and manufacturer.
Two synthetic rollers poured water and began to wait. The first 3 days were almost ineffective in growing grass.
Weed for cats Gavrish Skakun – review
Hello. When choosing seeds in the store Leroy Merlin, accidentally came across a package of seeds of grass for cats under the funny name Skakun. I immediately imagined a cat jumping like a little horse, or as they say the kittens – yougdydyka. I took a bag to try, the price seems democratic at first glance – 14 rubles, but it's for 10 grams.
The seeds are in a standard paper bag, in the Leroy store they can be found near the packages of lawn grass.
Or purely visually by the package with kitty instead of tomatoes, cucumbers and flowers.
The back has information on why cats need grass, but you have to be careful with vomiting. Maybe your pet just has a sensitive digestive system, if he vomits too often and just grass without fur, it's better to give it up. As an alternative, malt paste, it doesn't make your pet vomit and the hair comes out naturally (along with the feces).
Why the grass is called Raccoon is evident from the composition. It turns out that it is a type of oats. A total of 3 types of seeds in the bag, indicates their percentage ratio.
Composition: Skakun oats – 60%, meadow bluegrass Evora – 5%, annual ryegrass Viking – 35%.
At first the seeds seemed dusty and littered, but what I took for a husk are small seeds of ryegrass and bluegrass. The usual oats are kind of faded, though.
