  Development

  Cat in Boots is inspired by the titular character from the fairy tale of the same name. Character designer Tom Hester provided the design for the Cat, which was based on cats owned by Shrek director Andrew Adamson and supervisor Ken Bilenberg. After Antonio Banderas was chosen to play the voice of Cat, the animators of Shrek analyzed his performance as the main character in The Mask of Zorro (1998) in order to understand his description. Inspired by Banderas' Zorro, the filmmakers decided to make the origin of the Cat Spanish (instead of the French tale ).   Rumor has it that Steig drew the giant based on the image of the French wrestler Maurice Thieu, who performed in the rings in the early 20th century. The holder of the championship title had an unusual appearance due to a rare disease called acromegaly. It is caused by a benign tumor on the pituitary gland, which provokes expansion and thickening of the bones, especially in the facial part. That's why the athlete weighed 122 kg when he was 170 cm tall. Maurice was often compared to a troll or an ogre, but he had a vulnerable and kind character.

  

  The book, released in 1990, further attracted the attention of DreamWorks Animation Studios, and it delighted television viewers with short films and four animated films about the green monster: "Shrek" (2001), "Shrek 2" (2004), "Shrek 3" (2007) and "Shrek Forever" (2010).

  The first part of the cartoon, which had a budget of $60 million, received positive reviews from critics. The directors tried to put together a professional cast. Roles were voiced by Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow, Chris Miller and other stars of the cinematic firmament.

Meanwhile, the ruler of Duloc dreams of becoming the rightful king, so he wishes to propose to Fiona. But the runt is unaware that a curse has been placed on the beauty.

  The giant, in the company of the pesky talking Donkey, keeps his promise and overcomes dangers and obstacles to rescue the long-haired girl from the clutches of the huge fire-breathing monster.
