What finishing materials do not interest cats?
The question that almost all owners of furry ugly cats ask. Pets, especially cats, treat our apartments as property. This is their habitat, so we have to think of many ways to protect the wallpaper and furniture. Today, we're going to tell you what wall finishes can resist fierce cat claws.
Perhaps this is one of the most obvious and simple ways to protect future repairs. Design possibilities here are no less than in the case of wallpapering, but the process of preparation will take time and require a certain degree of skill.

Before painting, you need to carefully level the surface of the walls, prepare the surface so that the coating is strong, durable and aesthetically pleasing. As an option, you can simplify the task by covering the walls with textured plaster, then the small irregularities will be part of the design rather than a drawback. Well, about the stability of the walls for painting in front of the claws of our furry brothers and say no more. The finish will last long and true!
By the way, we once did such a repair for a family with a cat. Remember our review of the apartment with Scandinavian practicality? There's also a separate toilet made for cats. So, in the same apartment, the living room wall is finished with decorative plaster with a pattern. The coating is durable and not susceptible to scratching by cats.
How to camouflage stripped wallpaper
Sometimes the problem occurs gradually. Small cracks appear on the wallpaper, the edges begin to depart from the wall, the joints become visible. Obviously, the repair was done incorrectly, in a hurry, with the hope that the wallpaper would hang properly, but it did not.
We advise you to pay attention to detail when working with wallpaper. Monitor the process. It is better to fix all the shortcomings at once, than to re-do the repair, to think how to disguise the defects.
But it is difficult to control the beloved Barsika. The wall is ripped off, the cat likes it, you do not like it. What to do? To eliminate scratches on the wallpaper, you will need:
Pets can tear even the strongest wallpaper with their claws
- Inspect the scratched wall, decide – will it be possible to carefully mask the defect.
- Using a brush, apply a moderate amount of glue to the scratched wall.
- Press the stripped wallpaper to the wall, using a clean rag.
- Remove any leftover glue.
- If necessary, heat the area to be repaired with a hair dryer, press and wait for it to cool.
If the scratch is large, the damaged area should be carefully separated from the wall, dabbed with glue, and the glue should be applied as deeply as possible to the wall. Cotton swabs are ideal for this. The technology is also suitable for the situation where you need to tuck the edges of the wallpaper. If the edge that has come off clearly lies on the old place on the wall, then everything is easy.
If the edges are torn, you may need a patch, so always save the leftover finishing materials after repairs.
A patch requires a strict alignment of the pattern. Make it with a slightly larger size for an exact overlap between the old cloth and the new piece. The desired piece is cut out very carefully with sharp scissors.
How to replace part of the wallpaper on the wall
If the wallpaper is damaged in a large area, it will be necessary to remove it completely in this place and glue a patch. To replace part of the wallpaper, it will take much more effort. The main emphasis is on accuracy.
Warning. To remove is not just to peel off. In our case, it is required to carefully cut an even figure on the wall, so it will be easier for us to fit the patch, and the replacement of part of the wallpaper will turn out perfect.
If the damaged area is poorly peeled from the wall, you can wet it with water, or you can apply a special agent to remove the wallpaper.
Restoration of wallpaper with their own hands occurs in the following sequence:
- Cut the patch from the remaining cloths after the repair. If they are not left, or if you did not do the repair, you can with a sample to walk around construction stores. Suddenly, the exact same kind of still produce and you will smile good luck.
- The pattern of the patch is made a few centimeters larger than the old fragment.
- Apply wallpaper glue, suitable for your type of rolls, on the wallpaper and on the wall.
- Apply and smooth out the patch, getting rid of unnecessary air. We try to match the pattern.
All the nuances of how to put a patch on the wallpaper correctly, see the video:
The glued patch is a few centimeters larger, so it is overlapped. We remove it with a sharp knife, cutting along the joint between the patch and the old sheets. Thus a perfect connection is formed, which after drying will be almost invisible.
What material to finish the walls in the hallway so the cat does not scratch?
Our cat is horrible at scratching wallpaper and no modern claw-footing devices do not help. Thinks to trim half the walls of the corridor with some material that she can not tear as wallpaper. What do you advise?
The cheapest option is. plastic paneling.. There are a lot of them now and in different designs. You can use the same from top to bottom, and you can trim only the height of 1 meter.
More expensive and with more physical effort can be finished liquid wallpaper. It looks beautiful. And the cat will successfully sharpen its claws.
An employee's cat at work tore up the wallpaper in the hallway – he was jumping on the walls, hanging and crawling on his claws. He bought some vandal-proof wallpaper, made of thick fleece, heavy – he could hardly bring it home. At first all was fine, scratches from the claws are not visible, they are as if healed. But eventually the cat tore this wallpaper to shreds.
My cats, after renovating the kitchen, "renewed" all the places on the wallpaper they could reach. They didn't touch the old ones and the new ones for a month, but as soon as they were home alone, they tore it all up overnight. But by doing so pointed out how high to make protection.
Now I have plastic panels in the kitchen and in the hallway. Initially I thought to buy a transparent plastic to beautiful new wallpaper do not cover and do not bring unnecessary grayness in the interior. But we could not find anything suitable and affordable.
The panels are up to a height of 90 cm, and above the table is higher (like a meter and a half, I do not remember). The cats don't touch them, and have switched to their own scratching post – cardboard, boards, etc. Panels, of course, somewhat spoil the view, but if you have pets at home, something must be sacrificed.
Panels, by the way, when they are not at full height of the walls, it is easy to replace, if damaged or worn over time. Glue them not necessary, it is enough only moldings (profile) upper mount in 2-3 places, and normally the panel vosporsport held, and the bottom of their skirting board pressed.
What can you glue the scratched section of wallpaper cat (in the center of the wall)?
What do you think you can glue on the center of this wall to look good!
wrought iron planter, clock, mirror, LED picture, flexible wall heater with a picture of the fireplace,
Also in my opinion at this point would look very nice small bookshelf.
And you can for extra coziness and some kind of rug with a nice pattern to hang over the couch.
Wall mats again into fashion, they can be seen in some Swedish interiors.
It's a shame when cats don't understand order in the house and sneakily tear up the wallpaper. My two cats who live with me now do not do this. But they did ruin the seal on the bathroom door with their claws, and the white oak veneer door itself has a decent value. Also, my former cat, who is now gone, was smart, he knew not to tear up the wallpaper, so he did it in our absence and only under the couch. We discovered all this when we moved to another apartment.
If you do not want to re-paper the wallpaper, and in my opinion you can already do it, then it remains only to mask the damage. There are plenty of examples of how to do this with wallpaper of a different color, for example, taking them into the frame, then there will be an imitation of a painting. Here are the first examples that popped up. Now this method is often used by designers in interiors. But you can hang a large painting or poster.
What to do if the cat scratched the wallpaper. Budget option.
While our little black kitten was growing up, he did not do anything weird. We have no upholstered furniture, so the cat chose to tear the wallpaper in the hallway. It has a three-dimensional pattern, so there is something to latch on to. As a result, it turned out like this.
It is not an option to wallpaper the entire corridor. It's not bad in other places, it looks good and I really like it. The pattern smoothes the unevenness of the walls, and they are.
✔️Был option to do cork in the lower part of the wall, but it is likely to meet the same fate as the wallpaper. The cat will strip the cork like a scratching post. Out of the question.
✔️Покрытие "stone-like" or "masonry." Real masonry, of course, is expensive. I haven't considered this option. But there is imitation brickwork made of stucco. It's cheaper, you can do it yourself, but it takes a lot of time. It looks perfect with painted walls.
✔️Я also found a very budget-friendly option. Plastic sheets with embossed pattern. They imitate tile, mosaic, brick and other coatings. The price is very reasonable, in the range of 200 rubles per sheet. The size of about a meter with a small by 70 cm. I had enough of these 3 panels and glue for the gun liquid nails. All I paid about 800 rubles.
I cut the panels into pieces and glued not only in those places where there was peeling wallpaper. Even near the switches, because there often suffers the surface of the walls. And some places just for the general look.
